After loss of all his small crops in the big cyclone of 1955 Edgar went to work in the butter factory in Pomona in 1956 where he was to stay until it closed. During his time at the factory he also grew smallcrops, mainly beans, on land leased from Milners until that farm was sold on to Grahams. When the Butter Factory closed he was successful in his application to become Manager of the Fruitgrowers Co-operative in Factory Street. He retired early from there and grew strawberries on the ground beside the house in Exhibition Street until finally calling it a day to enjoy retirement as best he could. Has a great love of horses & cattle, enjoyed going fishing with his mates and a game of tennis when younger, and also a bit of travelling with Joy when time allowed.
